Salas returns to Spirit of Atlanta Design Team

Sal Salas returns to Spirit of Atlanta with vital roles in Program Design.

Spirit of Atlanta is excited to announce an important addition to the 2017 design and programming team:  Sal Salas will be joining the corps in the role of Artistic Director and Program Coordinator.

Most recently serving as Artistic Director and Colorguard Coordinator and with Santa Clara Vanguard, Salas’ career in DCI spans more than 3 decades and includes time as Executive Director of the Madison Scouts, where he was a marching member in 1975. In 2005 he was honored as DCI’s Director of the Year for his work with the Scouts.  He founded and directed “The State Street Review” winter guard, a unit that became 5-time WGI Gold Medalists.  Salas joined Spirit of Atlanta in 1983 and developed a guard program that won two DCI caption titles.  He later served more than 8 years as Program Coordinator and 3 years as color guard designer for the Glassmen, as well as his roles of Director and Executive Director in Madison.   Salas’ resume also includes design and teaching work with many successful WGI and High School programs across the country.  He has been an adjudicator for WGI since 2004, and has been inducted into both the WGASC and WGI Hall of Fame.

Chris Moore, Director of Spirit of Atlanta is thrilled that Salas is coming home to Spirit.  “We are extremely happy to have Sal rejoin the Spirit family.  Sal is widely known as one of the most creative visionaries in the pageantry arts world.  His experience in design and production are a most welcome addition to our design team,” Moore said.

Speaking about his return to the Spirit of Atlanta organization, Salas says “What an honor to come back home to the Spirit of Atlanta.  I look forward to being a part of a great team of educators and students.  2017 will be an exciting time for everyone involved and I am excited to continue the process of creating memories that will last a lifetime.”
