Roman Montoya

Roman Montoya is Movement Specialist for Spirit of Atlanta beginning with the 2018 season.   Montoya has many years of drum corps teaching experience.  He was movement/dance coordinator, color guard caption head, and staff coordinator for the Glassmen Drum and Bugle Corps of Toledo, OH.  He was with the corps for ten years.  Most recently, Roman was movement choreographer for The Santa Clara Vanguard.  Roman is also director of Black Gold Winter Guard from Dallas, TX and has been part of the teaching staff for twenty-three seasons.  Roman is also a choreographer/clinician/consultant for many color guards in Texas.

Currently, he serves as Director of Bands at Donna Sheard Intermediate School in Mansfield, TX.  Prior to teaching at DSIS,  Montoya was Assistant Director of Bands and Director of Color Guards at North Crowley High School in Fort Worth, TX for three years.  Montoya taught with Moore Public Schools in Moore, OK for ten years before moving to Texas.  He was Assistant Director at Moore High School, Director at Highland West Junior High and Director of Color Guards.  In addition, Roman is director/choreographer for the Waxahachie High School Band and Color Guard from Waxahachie, TX.  He has been with the program for 7 years.  His duties include movement choreography and ballet technique training for the band as well as choreography and design for the color/winter guard.

Montoya received his Bachelor of Music Education degree from The University of New Mexico in Albuquerque, NM.  He is a member of MENC and TMEA.
