In the drum corps activity, putting the health and well-being of the members is the top priority.  Spirit of Atlanta is excited to announce the latest two members of the 2017 staff who will work directly toward those important goals.

Director of Operations Jeff Pearson has announced that Jenna Chinburg will join Spirit of Atlanta in the role of Medical Program Manager.  In this vital role, Chinburg will develop, implement and oversee  medical policies and staff/member training in these key areas.   Physical conditioning, nutrition, and new medical initiatives will be the key areas of focus, and Chinburg provides oversight to the full athletic training staff that is being put in place to take care of the corps this summer.

Jenna Chinburg established herself in DCI with the Boston Crusaders as their Head Athletic Trainer in 2014. She assisted in creating the medical program in collaboration with Dr. Vivien Tucker. During the summers of 2014, 2015, and 2016, she completed full tours with the corps and managed an Assistant Athletic Trainer, athletic training interns, and a volunteer nurse.  Additionally in 2016, Jenna served as an Independent Health and Wellness Consultant where she assisted multiple drum corps implement medical policies and procedures, recruit/hire medical staff, and provide on-site injury evaluation for touring athletic trainers.  She says that she is “excited for this opportunity to develop the medical program for the Spirit family. I know that taking care of the members’ health and wellness is a significant priority for Atlanta. I am happy I will be able to further that cause in a meaningful way.” Jenna will continue working with Dr. Tucker and the Boston Crusaders in her current capacity.

Frank Birchfield

Spirit has also announced the addition of Frank Birchfield as Executive Chef for the 2017 season.  Birchfield has also worked closely with Pearson and Chinburg with the Boston Crusaders.  He brings a new level of professional experience to Spirit of Atlanta’s food service program, ensuring that the members get the highest quality meals and are taken care of with the proper nutritional needs to handle the physical demands of a competitive drum corps season.

Originally from San Jose CA., Frank attended the California Culinary Academy in San Francisco and graduated with an Associates degree in Culinary Arts. Right after, he moved to San Diego where he worked at the W Hotel and then decided working in non-profit was his true calling.  He went on to work for Toussaint Academy and the US Olympic Training Center. In 2014 Frank moved to Indiana where he  was introduced to Drum Corp, now works with Greek House of Iowa as chef of Sigma Alpha Epsilon in Lafayette, Indiana.

Spirit’s Director of Operations Jeff Pearson emphasizes the corps’ commitment to the health and safety of all members and staff throughout the season.  “Knowing Jenna and Frank as I do,” Pearson said, “I have confidence that our people will be in the hands of some of the best that drum corps has to offer.  With  the years of experience and levels of knowledge they bring, we’re looking forward to the 2017 season knowing that our members will be better prepared, fed well, and cared for at the highest possible level.”
