FRIENDS OF SPIRIT: BOARD UPDATES 

Friends of Spirit, which operates Spirit of Atlanta Drum and Bugle Corps, recently held their annual meeting and announces some exciting changes and additions that were approved by the board. First, is the recently announced change that Jeff Nelson has stepped down from his role as President of the Board into the position of Executive Director for the organization. Jeff will remain on the board in an Ex-officio capacity.

With the Board President’s position vacated, Shane George, recently serving as Vice President of the board, was unanimously voted into the role of President. Shane has served in the Vice President’s position for the last two years, so this is a natural step for him. Shane is employed by Lockheed Martin Corporation and Marietta Georgia. Replacing Shane in the Vice President’s position by unanimous vote is Paul Cox. Paul has served on the board for two years and most recently chaired the Show committee which operated the highly successful Powder Springs DCI show at Hillgrove High School this summer. Paul will continue to chair the Show Committee this season. Paul is employed by 84 Lumber Company.

Joining the executive committee in the Treasurer’s role is Tyler Barron. Kenn Lamson has vacated this position but will retain his role as a member of the board.   Tyler has served on the board and the finance committee with Kenn for the last two seasons. He has been instrumental in restructuring and cleaning the organizations finances and recently completing a voluntary financial audit. Tyler is an ERP Software Consultant and resides in New York CityJoel Tisinger remains in his role as Secretary of the Board, a position he has held for two years. Joel also serves on the Governance Committee and the Legal Committee.

 

Friends of Spirit is excited to announce three new additions to the board, George Dickinson, Duane Still, and Michael McAdams.

 

George Dickinson

George Dickinson is an alumnus of the corps, having marched in 1987 and 1991, and has been serving on the Show Committee for the last year. George is a finance and development professional residing in Houston, TX. He holds a BS in Engineering from Auburn University, an MBA from the Kellogg School of Management, and an MS in Engineering Management from Northwestern University. George will serve on the Events Committee and the Governance Committee.

 

 

 

Duane Still

Duane Still has the distinction of serving as drum major for Spirit of Atlanta in its inaugural year of 1977. Duane is a CPA and holds a BBA in Accounting from the University of Georgia.   He has spent the majority of his career with Coca-Cola, where he served most recently as CFO of North American Operations. Duane has over 30 years of experience in finance within the consumer products industry and currently serves as CFO and Senior VP of Finance with CSM Bakery Solutions.

 

 

 

Michael McAdams

Michael McAdams is new the Atlanta area but has a long history with drum corps. Mike marched from 1972-1974 with the Anaheim Kingsmen whose career has focused on banking and financial services. He is a seasoned entrepreneur having served as President and CEO of ING Capital Advisors, President and CEO of Four Corners Capital Management, and currently serves as Principal for Acacia Investment Partners. Michael has an extensive background in serving youth and community organizations in financial management, strategic planning, and fundraising.
