Rolison joins Spirit of Atlanta as Corps Physician

Dr. C.J. Rolison, IV

Spirit of Atlanta is excited to announce the addition of Dr. C.J. Rolison, IV to the operations team in the role of Corps Physician.  Dr. Rolison brings a unique background and experience to the medical program that is well suited for the drum corps activity. In addition to being a fellowship-trained primary care sports medicine physician, he is also a Spirit of Atlanta alumnus, having performed as a member of the front ensemble from 2000-2003.  He is well versed in the physical and mental demands required of DCI performers, who really function as high-level athletes.

Dr. Rolison grew up in Cleveland, TN, before enrolling at the University of Georgia where he received Bachelors degrees in Music and Biology. While in Athens, he performed with the UGA Redcoat Band’s Drumline and ensembles from the Hugh Hodgson School of Music.  Additionally, he competed in the WGI circuit with the Pariah Indoor Drumline and Odyssey Percussion Theatre and was later a member in the inaugural season of the Atlanta Falcons Drumline.

After his time at UGA, Dr. Rolison earned his medical degree from the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine’s Georgia Campus, and then completed his family medicine residency at AnMed Health in Anderson, SC.  He furthered his education at the University of Kentucky where he received his fellowship training in sports medicine.  This training combination allows Dr. Rolison to provide expert care for both sports related musculoskeletal injuries and general medical care.  He gained experience caring for elite athletes at the University of Kentucky and Eastern Kentucky University, as well as working with high school athletics in South Carolina, Kentucky, and currently in Georgia.  Dr. Rolison is board certified in family medicine and has his certificate of added qualifications in sports medicine.  He is active with the American Medical Society for Sports Medicine and has presented at national conferences in Florida, Texas, and Massachusetts.

Dr. Rolison is excited about the opportunity to give back to the corps he grew up performing with. He and the rest of the medical team have already been hard at work planning for this upcoming season with the current focus on screening and injury prevention.  Once tour begins, he will help coordinate care with the athletic trainers traveling with the corps on the road to help keep our members healthy and performing at their best.

Dr. Rolison currently practices in Bethlehem, GA, as part of the Northeast Georgia Health System and is happy to take care of Barrow County and the surrounding areas.  Please visit www.ngpg.org for additional information about Dr. Rolison’s practice.

Spirit’s Medical Program Manager, Jenna Chinburg had this to say“I am excited to have Dr. C.J. Rolison as a dynamic addition to our newly created medical team. With his experience not only in primary care, but also sports medicine he will help us achieve our goal of providing comprehensive medical care for the Spirit members.”
