Spirit from JSU announces their 2005 production, “The Spirit of Broadway.”
This year’s production will take the corps through a trip into the famous music of the Broadway musical. The corps will introduce the listener to several musical quotes of Broadway, past and present, before opening with the famous, “They’re Playing Our Song.” The musical and visual development of the show will not only showcase very different styles of Broadway music, but also explore the many eras of Broadway that have characterized the musical scene for years. Expect to hear several melodies from musicals old and new but all in the “Spirit” of the theater. The show will feature the many faces of Broadway including the opening act, the broken-hearted, the hero, and the true spirit of any actor. Musical selections and quotations from the Tony Award winning, “Wicked,” are sure to be some of the most popular melodies that will be heard in DCI performance venues in the summer of 2005. Plans are well underway with the design team for a very entertaining and high-energy show that will please both the performer and the audience member. The design team will be headed by David Starnes, Program Coordinator, Richard Saucedo, Brass Arranger, and Michael Gaines, Visual Designer.
Spirit’s programming goals are aimed at the performers ability to communicate and create a memorable experience through the Broadway medium while allowing for a high degree of entertainment for the audience. As the design team finalizes each section of the show musically, as well as visually, look for updates on the website of source recordings from the various Broadway musicals that will be included in this year’s production.
