SoA BOD thanks Annette Williams-Love and welcomes interim Chairman Jeff Nelson

Earlier today, Annette Williams-Love tendered her resignation from her position as Chairman of the Board of Friends of Spirit, Inc. The Board has accepted Ms. Love’s resignation, and thanks her for her years of dedicated service with the Spirit of Atlanta. Ms. Love has worked tirelessly and with great love for the drum corps, of which she is an alumnus, and she will long be remembered for stepping up at a critical point and helping return the corps to Atlanta. The Board wishes Ms. Love all the best with her future endeavors.

The position of Chairman of the Board has been filled on an interim basis by new Board member, Jeff Nelson. Mr. Nelson marched in the Spirit of Atlanta drumline from 1979-1981, then with Blue Devils in 1982. After leaving drum corps, he spent 20 years working in various senior roles for multiple Fortune 500 companies before stepping away from the corporate world to buy out Lone Star Percussion, a company with a strong history but on the brink of failure. Lone Star is now one of the largest privately held music retailers in the world. In the past several years since entering the music business, Mr. Nelson has done regular advising and consulting work with the System Blue business unit of the Blue Devils, and has consulted and/or advised many manufacturing companies in the percussion industry including but not limited to Hoshino (manufacturer of TAMA drums and distributor for Kanstul Brass), Innovative Percussion, and Pearl drums, all companies that are currently sponsors of SoA. Additionally, he currently serves on the Percussive Arts Society’s Board of Advisors.

We believe that Mr. Nelson will be an outstanding addition to the Board, and we look forward to working together to build the 2016 Spirit of Atlanta.
